Blood Products and Lab Specimen Transport
Blood and Blood Products
Quellent's 9"x9" DriPADs are used as Standard Operating Procedure in the annual shipment of over one million units of blood collected by North America's largest network of non-profit community blood banks and with the laboratory samples that are shipped to analyze and qualify those blood products. The pads protect against damage, give better thermal insulation, and provide peace of mind, should a blood bag or specimen vial leak or rupture. Each 9"x9" DriPAD can completely absorb a full unit of blood. If ten units of blood are shipped together and one bursts, all ten units are ruined - $10.00 in pads will save you $5,000.00 in product - that's pretty good insurance.
After three years of certification testing, the nation's second largest blood bank has reported significant cost savings after adopting the system jointly developed with them. About 680,000 units of blood or blood products were handled 3,000,000 times during transport over the study period. Because the DriPADs are much smaller than previously used diaper-like absorbents, they were able to increase the payload capacity of shipments by 50%. The freight savings, along with a reduction in breakage and clean-up costs, accounted for a system-wide savings of over $1 Million. Enhanced safety and cost savings - now that's peace of mind!
